First, I hope that everyone continues to have a positive and productive summer break. The nature of this letter is to advise our students and parents of the Brookhaven School District’s intention to strictly enforce the cell phone/electronic device rules for the upcoming 23-24 academic year. Our current policy has been in place for several years, and although it allows students to possess cell phones, it does not allow for cell phone usage or for cell phones to be seen during the school day.
Our students all have tremendous amounts of potential, but that potential cannot be fully realized if they are constantly distracted by cell phones and other electronic devices. In order to accomplish the mission of the Brookhaven School District, which is “to prepare all students for success in college, career, and life,” we must all commit to a focus on providing our students with a premier educational opportunity. I want to thank you for your attention regarding this important subject, and remember, you cannot see the future that is in front of you if you are constantly looking down.
