Beginning January 27, 2026, the Brookhaven School District is seeking input from students, staff, parents, and community members through the 2026 Comprehensive Needs Assessment Survey.
Participation in this survey is vital, as responses will help the district assess and address priorities related to school safety, technology, classroom instruction, and overall educational programming. Additionally, the results of this needs assessment will directly inform district decision-making regarding the allocation of funds for Title I, Title II, Title IV, Title V, and School Improvement grants.

In this episode, Dr. Henderson sits down with Coach Alonzo Cameron, a proud alumnus of the Brookhaven School District, where he once walked the halls as both a student and student-athlete.

After graduating college, Coach Cameron began his career in education and coaching in Texas. However, a life-changing call brought him back home — a decision he’s grateful he made. Since returning, he has continued to coach, teach, and pursue higher education, ultimately leading him into administration.

Today, he serves as the new Director of Mullins Achievement Center.

Dr. Henderson commends Coach Cameron for his genuine connection with students, sharing during the episode, “You have a way with our kids… they love you. The influence you have on them is so positive.”

There was no doubt in Dr. Henderson’s mind that Coach Cameron was the right person for this role. Now, as Director, Coach Cameron leads with pride, consistently reminding every student that they matter.

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has redesigned its teacher recruitment website, TeachMS.org, that markets the teaching profession in Mississippi while breaking down the teacher preparation and licensure process into easy-to-understand steps.

Anyone interested in becoming a teacher is advised to explore the website to learn about how to get started. The website includes a quiz to help potential teachers find the licensure pathway that fits their background, an interactive salary schedule, and links to job listings in the new Mississippi Educator Career Continuum Archive (MECCA) Talent Portal. It also includes highlights about the benefits of teaching in Mississippi, including incentives for teachers and the state’s No. 2 national ranking for affordability.

Brookhaven School District will resume a normal schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
