March 16, 2020 Update

If our schools remain closed next Monday, March 23, the Brookhaven School District will open our Summer Feeding sites to serve  children ages 18 years and younger.  This is contingent upon MDE approval and food shipments arriving at the feeding sites in time for meals to be prepared. Although details have not been confirmed, this will most likely be a grab and go brown bag meal plan. Summer Feeding program details will be posted on the BSD website.

Update March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020
The Brookhaven School District is communicating regularly with state and local authorities regarding the status of the COVID-19 situation and how it affects our children and community. Thank you for your patience as the leaders of the Brookhaven School District take into account all of those who would be affected by a lengthy school closure. As of this time, all BSD schools will open as scheduled on Monday, March 16, 2020. We urge you to check the Brookhaven School District website for updates.

Update on COVID-19

Please be assured that the Brookhaven School District is actively monitoring the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in conjunction with local and federal health authorities. As always, the safety of our students, staff and families remains a top priority, and we will act out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and well-being.

Currently, the Mississippi Department of Health says that the immediate threat to our school community is low. Should this change in the future, BSD is prepared to protect our families through appropriate control measures. No changes in scheduling of events are expected at this time; however, all scheduled events or gatherings of large groups are subject to being cancelled if the need should arise. Any changes in scheduling will be posted to the Brookhaven School District website and the BSD Facebook page.

COVID-19 is believed to be spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, much in the way the flu and other respiratory viruses are spread. As always, we encourage you to follow routine healthy habits to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses, such as:
*Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
*Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
*Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
*Stay home when sick.
*Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
*Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

As recommended by the Mississippi Department of Health, we continue environmental cleaning such as disinfecting frequently touched surfaces at our campuses. Brookhaven SD uses EPA approved solutions for Coronavirus to help ensure that our campuses and buildings stay disinfected. We have replenished our supply of liquid soap, hand sanitizer and disinfectant.
In situations like these, rumors may cause unnecessary reactions and panic. Therefore, we encourage you to get information from credible sources. You can access the Mississippi Department of Health webpage for updates, key messages, frequently asked questions, travel advisories, rumor control, and more at https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14
